Kathy Starkoff, Founder, President and CEO
Kathy Starkoff is an accomplished Fortune 500 technology executive with 30+ years of experience leading global, highly-regulated and industry-leading organizations. She has skillfully translated digital/technology innovations into strategy, directed enterprise risk management, and guided mission-critical system, process and organizational change. Kathy is recognized for her strong communication and collaboration skills; she simplifies the complex and connects seemingly dissimilar points, with transparency and trust.
Ms. Starkoff advises executives and boards on matters of IT strategy, large-scale change and risk management. Her understanding of diverse industries, cultures, and norms is appreciated by clients that range from regional public accounting firms to multi-billion dollar manufacturing concerns, including government and higher education.
Previously, Kathy was CIO at The Ohio State University, a top tier research university and the nation’s third largest. She was invited to be a member of both the President’s Council and the University’s Management Committee, providing strategic direction and advice to the President, key leaders and the Board of Trustees. There, she united 35 IT organizations of competing interests (e.g. medical center, research, athletics and colleges) toward a common strategic vision, resulting in enterprise plans for IT, e-learning and cyber security.
As CTO and Group Vice President of Limited Brands, a $6 billion global retailer that included Victoria’s Secret, now LBrands, Ms. Starkoff led transformational change, informing and advising key executives as well as the Board. She was key to the creation of new enterprise functions, including supply chain, shared services (Human Resource, Information Technology and Finance), and Enterprise Risk Management. Prior to that, Kathy was CTO and Senior Vice President of Bank One Corporation, now Chase, where she improved the speed and effectiveness of IT in mergers and acquisitions.
Kathy is an Independent Director of Gentex Corporation (GNTX; Nasdaq). She is also the Board Chair of Flying Horse Farms and a member of the SeriousFun Children’s Network Board, a global organisation, where she is Audit and Risk committee Chair. Previously, she was Vice-Chair of Columbus Academy’s Board of Directors. Ms Starkoff also served as an advisor to the National Science Foundation’s Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure.
The National Association of Corporate Directors recognized Ms. Starkoff as a “Leadership Fellow” and featured her as a cyber security expert in their national “Strategy and Risk” and “Advanced Director” conferences. She was noted as a “Person to Know” by Columbus Business First and selected as a “Board Fellow” by a joint program of George Washington University and the International Women’s Forum.
Kathy holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Case Western Reserve University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, cum laude, from Kent State University. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, skiing and golfing, as well as mentoring rising stars in the STEM areas, especially related to technology start-ups.
